In cooperation with the International Theater Frankfurt.

Once again, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony’s special chamber music series is making a guest appearance at the International Theatre in Frankfurt. This season’s opening concert of »Kammerflimmern« focuses on a prominent figure celebrating a milestone anniversary, as well as two significant female composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. You can listen to a string quartet by Emilie Mayer, which would likely have become far better known had it been published under the name of her contemporaries Schumann or Mendelssohn. Posterity has sometimes given her the questionable epithet »the female Beethoven«, and the »male« Beethoven also features this evening with an early one of his quartets, clearly modelled on Mozart. The programme opens with the four musicians of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony performing the most frequently heard of the seven string quartets by Grażyna Bacewicz, with which the Polish composer, violin virtuoso and teacher won the International Competition for String Quartet Composition in Liège, Belgium, in 1951.

Concert duration: about 110 minutes – including break
