Die Begegnung verschiedener musikalischer Welten ist das Markenzeichen des Music Discovery Projects, mit dem das hr-Sinfonieorchester einmal jährlich die myticket Jahrhunderthalle füllt und das Publikum stets aufs Neue begeistert. Diesmal zu Gast ist die Berliner Folk-Band Mighty Oaks. In Zeiten, in denen Musik clean und glatt produziert wird, viele Musikerinnen und Musiker mit Samples aus dem Internet arbeiten oder sich von künstlicher Intelligenz unterstützen lassen, setzen Mighty Oaks dem allgegenwärtigen Perfektionismus Songs entgegen, welche mit ihren kleinen, bewussten Schlenkern das genaue Gegenteil sind. Alles von Hand eingespielt und mit in einer ehrlichen Direktheit, die man nicht vortäuschen kann. Bei ihnen ergänzen Mandoline, Tamburin und Banjo das übliche Instrumentarium von Schlagzeug, Gitarre und Bass, dazu kommt ihr dreistimmiger Gesang. Deshalb werden sie auch manchmal mit den großen Mumford & Sons verglichen. Ihre Songs handeln von der Liebe zur Natur, Freundschaft und anderen sehr persönlichen Themen.
Mighty Oaks – das sind Ian Hooper aus den USA, Claudio Donzelli aus Italien und Craig Saunders aus Großbritannien. Getroffen haben sich die drei in Hamburg und leben mittlerweile in Berlin. Seit ihrem Durchbruch 2013 mit dem Album »Howl« spielte die Folk-Band unzählige Livekonzerte, hatte Festivalauftritte in aller Welt und war im Vorprogramm von Bands wie Shout Out Louds, Kings of Leon oder Chvrches. Nach einer Kreativpause, in der jeder der drei Musiker Zeit hatte, seine jeweiligen Soloprojekte zu verwirklichen, fanden die drei 2024 wieder zusammen und konzentrierten sich auf den Ausgangspunkt ihrer Bandkarriere: handgemachte, akustische Musik. So entstand das aktuelle Album »High Times«. Und spätestens seit Frontmann Hooper 2021 an der Show »Sing meinen Song« teilnahm, wurden sie in Deutschland richtig bekannt.
Gemeinsam mit dem hr-Sinfonieorchester wird die internationale Band aus Berlin für ein erneut überraschendes und einzigartiges Music Discovery Project sorgen mit ungewohnten Mischungen und Kontrasten zwischen Klassik und Pop, Orchester und handgemachten Songs und Beats. Die Leitung des Abends hat dabei erneut Frank Strobel, der renommierte Filmmusik-Dirigent, mit dem das hr-Sinfonieorchester schon seit vielen Jahren eine erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit verbindet.

The encounter of different musical worlds is the trademark of the Music Discovery Project, with which the Frankfurt Radio Symphony fills the myticket Jahrhunderthalle once a year and always delights the audience anew. This year's guest is the Berlin folk band Mighty Oaks. In times when music is produced cleanly and smoothly, when many musicians work with samples from the internet or are supported by artificial intelligence, Mighty Oaks counter the omnipresent perfectionism with songs that are the exact opposite with their small, deliberate twists and turns. Everything is recorded by hand and with an honest directness that cannot be faked. Their mandolin, tambourine and banjo complement the usual instruments of drums, guitar and bass, plus their three-part vocals. This is why they are sometimes compared to the great Mumford & Sons. Their songs are about the love of nature, friendship and other very personal themes.

Together with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, the international band from Berlin will once again provide a surprising and unique Music Discovery Project with unusual mixes and contrasts between classical and pop, orchestra and handmade songs and beats. The evening will once again be conducted by Frank Strobel, the renowned film music conductor with whom the Frankfurt Radio Symphony has enjoyed a successful collaboration for many years.
